About Plan International EU

Plan International is an independent humanitarian and development organisation accelerating change for girls’ rights worldwide. Girls face the greatest barriers to equality, from poverty and violence to exclusion and discrimination, and we are working relentlessly to dismantle them.

As Plan International we believe in advancing children’s rights in all contexts, including during conflict and emergencies, where girls are faced with additional dangers.

Our programmes deliver lasting change against discriminatory norms, policies and laws. We listen to the voices of children in the community, especially girls whose views and needs are frequently overlooked, to ensure that our work is relevant and effective.

For over 85 years, we’ve turned determination into action standing with girls in more than 80 countries as they lead change in their lives and communities. Because when girls lead, communities rise.

The Plan International EU Liaison Office drives change by influencing EU external policies and programmes. Through an integrated approach that connects advocacy, communications and funding, we amplify the voices and leadership of girls and young women, turning their priorities into impact.

Working alongside girls, young women, supporters and partners, we are determined to build a fairer world, tackling the root causes that hold girls back. From early childhood to adulthood, we stand with girls as they grow, lead and shape their futures and we enable them to prepare for and respond to crises and adversity.

We drive change where it matters most: in homes, classrooms, communities, and political spheres. Using our experience and global reach, we influence practice and policy at local, national and global levels to deliver real impact for girls.

We amplify girl’s voices, not speaking for them, but standing with them as experts in the issues that affect them. Through evidence-based advocacy and bold, campaigning, we turn their priorities into action.

The EU has committed through its own treaties to the promotion and realisation of human rights worldwide, including the rights of children. To support these commitments, the EU has developed key frameworks including the Child Rights Strategy, the Youth Action Plan, the Gender Action Plan, the EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy, and the The Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument – Global Europe (NDICI-Global Europe), which guide its external action and international partnerships.

When EU policies and programmes fall short, we speak out. We challenge gaps and contradictions, providing clear, constructive analysis to push for the advancement in girls’ rights we want to see.

We won’t stop until we are all equal.
