What we do in Ethiopia
At Plan International Ethiopia, we protect and support girls in times of crisis and work with them to build lasting change. From keeping girls safe and learning during emergencies to strengthening their education, health, and economic opportunities, we back girls to lead change in their communities. We also use evidence from our work to advocate for better laws, policies, and practices helping create a more equal future for all.

Nutrition and health
In Ethiopia girls continue to catch preventable illnesses that steal their futures.
We ensure girls and their communities have access to nutritious food, maternal and child health services, and lifesaving care especially during crises.
Healthy girls grow into confident young women who can learn, lead, and dream bigger.
Protection from violence
Every girl deserves to grow up safe and free from fear.
We work with families, communities, and local systems to prevent violence, end harmful practices, and make sure survivors receive compassionate support.
When girls are protected, their futures open up.
Economic empowerment, food and livelihood security
Conflict, climate shocks, displacement, and unemployment continue to undermine young people’s futures in Ethiopia.
We equip them with job skills, financial literacy, entrepreneurship training, and mentoring to build resilient livelihoods even in the face of economic or climate shocks.

Education
Education is power but in Ethiopia too many girls are still denied it.
We help children access safe, inclusive schools with trained teachers, relevant learning materials, and early learning support.
When girls stay in school, they shape their own futures and uplift those around them.
Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
In Ethiopia, too many families live without safe water, sanitation, and hygiene.
We help communities secure safe drinking water, build gender‑friendly toilets, and practise good hygiene, improving health and keeping girls in school.
When water is safe and close to home, girls gain back time, safety, and opportunity.
Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH)
Girls and young people deserve the knowledge and services to make informed choices about their bodies and futures.
We expand youth‑friendly sexual and reproductive health services in both stable and crisis settings.
