Support children in the global hunger crisis

Across the world’s hardest‑hit countries, babies survive on one small meal a day – sometimes less.

Classrooms sit empty because children are too hungry to learn. Families are skipping meals, selling what little they have, or going without so their children can eat.

For girls, hunger often means being pulled out of school first and eating last, if at all.

Hunger Crisis response map

When food runs out, girls face dangers no child ever should. In some communities, families are pushed into desperate decisions — including early and forced marriage — simply to survive. Hunger also exposes girls to child labour, violence and exploitation. These are not isolated stories. They are happening now, every day, in places like South Sudan, Haiti and beyond.

Plan International was built for moments like this.

We stand with girls to protect their lives today and their futures tomorrow. We support every part of a girl’s world — not just one piece of it. From nutritious food and cash support to help families cope, to safe schools, meals that keep girls learning, and protection that keeps them safe from harm, our work responds to urgent need while backing girls to keep leading their own lives.

We work side by side with girls, families and communities, using deep local knowledge and trusted partnerships to reach those most at risk — fast.

Without urgent action, more children will die. More girls will be forced to give up their education, their safety and their dreams. The effects of this hunger crisis will be felt for decades — unless we act now.
