Phuong Anh, Youth Engagement and Campaign Coordinator, Plan International Asia Pacific (Vietnam)

I started working at Plan International Vietnam as a fresh graduate without any working experience, but the empowering environment soon made me feel truly valued and more self-confident. As a young person, I appreciate Plan’s belief in the power of youth-led movements, and this spirit is demonstrated clearly in the workplace.

I have autonomy and am trusted in my work. My creative ideas are listened to and respected by senior leaders, and my passion for the job is always fuelled by encouragement from colleagues. This is truly a healthy working environment to me.

I’m fortunate to find that my personal values closely align to Plan’s values and mission. I appreciate the commitment to diversity and inclusion. Intersectionality is always taken into consideration when we design communications messages, campaigns and projects. In every single thing we do, we make sure to leave no-one behind. Ensuring the rights of disadvantaged and vulnerable groups is always our top priority.

I love what I do since I can see the meaningful impact of it. Our youth-led approach means young people feel empowered and confident. They dare to be bold, courageous, focused and innovative. I am fortunate to witness the inspiring journeys of activists from ethnic minorities in Vietnam, some of those who used to think that their voices could never be heard, even by family members. They find themselves proven wrong when stepping onto the big stage of a regional webinar to share their story. Their fire can soon be found when there is someone who believes in them.

Anna Tupling, Organisation Learning Consultant, Global Hub (UK)

I have been fortunate enough to work for Plan for the past 5 years in a range of roles growing personally and professionally.

I’m currently an Organisation Learning Consultant, so I support staff and partners to develop professionally and unleash their own potential.

I have learnt a lot at Plan and the company culture and values have transcended into my personal life. Through exposure to a mix of cultures, diversities and experiences I have been able to grow my understanding, broaden my views and improve how I communicate and interact with people.

A really great experience for me was partaking in a Power, Privilege, and Bias workshop. It really opened my eyes to the everyday challenges different people face and has made me a lot more self-aware. It has supported me to become much more conscious in my engagement with others.

Felix Ncube, Country Finance Manager, Guinea-Bissau

I have worked for Plan International as an Assistant Accountant, Accountant, and Management Accountant in Zimbabwe and am currently the Country Finance Manager in Guinea-Bissau.

During my time with Plan, I have honed my skills in grants management, financial management and reporting, internal controls, risk management, planning and budgeting, advisory support to management, effective communication, teamwork and collaboration with partners.

I have enhanced transparency, openness and accountability and this contributes to building our reputation with our stakeholders. The friendly, rewarding, feminist leadership work environment gives me the courage to progress in the path of excellence.

I applaud Plan’s purpose and culture of gender equity, anti-racism, dignity and respect for all, that cuts across programmes, partnerships and communities.

Celina Rosales, Country Director, Plan International El Salvador

I began my work in Plan in 1986 as Community Development Facilitator, an opportunity that allowed me to be with children in the communities, living their reality and looking for alternative solutions to their problems.

10 years later, I was promoted to Coordinator of the Programs Unit, performing a strategic role to operationalise the work of the Program Unit; later I was promoted to the Management of Programs Unit La Libertad and I have been in this role for 15 years.

In parallel in recent years, Plan El Salvador has selected me to be part of the succession management plan, allowing me to increase my skills and thus have led me in the management of 2 countries in the region: Honduras and El Salvador on 2 occasions.

Plan International, besides being a learning school, is an organisation that allows you to grow in values, promote inclusion, be innovative, be a better leader and achieve your development goals.
